Side Effects of Iso Trin 20mg Capsule

Indication of Iso Trin 20mg Capsule

Isotretinoin is indicated for the treatment of severe recalcitrant nodular acne, where nodules are inflammatory lesions with a diameter of 5 mm or greater. It should be reserved for patients unresponsive to conventional therapy, including systemic antibiotics. Female patients must not be pregnant due to the risk of severe birth defects. A single course of therapy for 15 to 20 weeks can result in complete and prolonged remission. If a second course is needed, it should be initiated at least 8 weeks after the first course.

Pharmacology

Isotretinoin, a synthetic retinoid, reduces sebaceous gland size, inhibits sebum production, and regulates cell proliferation and differentiation. It also exhibits dermal anti-inflammatory effects.

Dosage & Administration of Iso Trin 20mg Capsule

Adult Dose: Oral, 0.5-1 mg/kg/day for severe acne.
Child Dose: <12 years: Safety not established; >12 years: 0.5-1 mg/kg/day.
Renal Dose: Reduce dose in severe impairment.

Interaction

Additive toxicity with vitamin A.
Decreased efficacy with microdosed progesterone.
